Hiking Adventures Await: Nov. 17 Trails on Long Island | Laffey Real Estate

November 17 is National Take a Hike Day, and here on Long Island, we're fortunate to have some truly exceptional hiking trails at our fingertips. Parks and preserves all over Nassau and Suffolk counties offer perfect locations to enjoy a hike in the crisp fall weather, and our real estate agents are here to share some of their favorites.

  • Kings Point Inner Loop -  Kings Point Road, Kings Point, NY 11024
Located within the beautiful 175-acre Kings Point Park, the Kings Point Inner Loop Trail is a 2-mile loop trail covering easy terrain through a thickly wooded area. It generally takes less than 40 minutes to complete, making it ideal for a relaxed morning stroll near these Great Neck homes for sale. Leashed dogs are welcome in Kings Point Park, and the trail is also popular for running and bird watching.

  • Cedarmere Preserve - 225 Bryant Ave., Roslyn, NY 11576
The Cedarmere Preserve is a large historic estate home to 19th-century author William Cullen Bryant. It's a charming property with ponds, expansive gardens, and towering mature trees. Along with the neighboring William Cullen Bryant Preserve, it offers a meandering network of trails stretching over 6 miles. A stone's throw from many Roslyn homes for sale, it's a hike that ranges from wild and natural to cultivated and well-manicured.

  • Hempstead Harbor Natural Area - West Shore Road, Port Washington, NY 11050
A hidden gem on the North Shore, Hempstead Harbor Natural Area is part of a network of relatively new parks established along the banks of Hempstead Harbor. Less than 10 minutes from several Port Washington homes for sale, the area is made of lush woods and wetlands, with pathways open to both hiking and mountain biking. The Hempstead Harbor Shoreline Path, a 3.4-mile out-and-back trail, follows the shoreline and connects to neighboring parks.

  • Trail View State Park - 8101 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY 11797
No discussion of hiking trails on Long Island is complete without mentioning Trail View State Park, a linear park that links to the Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail. Stretching 7.4 miles and spanning 400 acres, Trail View State Park is wooded, shady, and quiet, making it a perfect place for a hike of any length. If this trail isn't enough, ambitious hikers can tackle the entire greenbelt, which extends 19.6 miles all the way from the North Shore to the South Shore.

  • Hope Goddard Iselin Preserve - Chicken Valley Road, Oyster Bay, NY 11771
One of the great under-the-radar hiking spots on Long Island, the Hope Goddard Iselin Preserve is a secluded 42-acre property just minutes from these Oyster Bay homes for sale. Its glacier-scoured landscape is home to several easy trails that meander beneath a thick canopy of white pines and hardwoods. It's a peaceful park where you're unlikely to see many other hikers, making it ideal if you're seeking solitude.

  • Sunken Meadow State Park - Route 25A and Sunken Meadow Parkway, Kings Park, NY 11754
Over 14 miles of trails crisscross Sunken Meadow State Park, a large park encompassing wetlands, meadows, forests, and beaches, offering jaw-dropping views across Long Island Sound. Start with the 1.3-mile Wetland Trail to see unique flora and fauna along Sunken Meadow Creek, keeping an eye out for wading birds. Or take in the salty air along the 3.3-mile Dune Trail.

Contact us today to learn more about spending time in the great outdoors on Long Island. Hiking in Nassau and Suffolk counties is a great way to get to know the lay of the land, and our real estate agents are here to help every step of the way.
