Long Island: Spotlight on Nassau County Towns | Laffey Real Estate

The laid-back charm of these Long Island towns provides a welcome contrast from the noise and fast pace of Manhattan. Join our real estate agents as they take a look at small towns around Nassau County.

  • Great Neck
Iconic American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, a one-time resident of Great Neck, immortalized the town as the model for West Egg in The Great Gatsby. Located on a North Shore peninsula, Great Neck is actually comprised of nine villages linked by several unincorporated areas. Village Green, right down the street from Great Neck homes for sale, serves as a central gathering place for a number of community events, such as the annual Music Festival & Street Fair. If you want to shop until you drop, Middle Neck Road in Great Neck Plaza features more than 260 upscale retail stores and restaurants.

  • Port Washington
As a legacy of its one-time status as a bustling maritime village, Port Washington boasts a rich cultural diversity. Appropriately, Main Street is the hub of Port Washington's downtown area. Landmark on Main Street is a vibrant performing arts center that has hosted an eclectic assortment of plays, concerts, and stand-up comedy featuring well-known artists such as the Psychedelic Furs, Taj Mahal, Paul Reiser, and Janeane Garofalo. When you want to relax and unwind, the 1.5-mile Manhasset Bay Walk is a beautiful slice of nature just minutes from Port Washington homes for sale.

  • Oyster Bay
The Oyster Bay Main Street Association is dedicated to maintaining a thriving downtown area without sacrificing its historical and aesthetic appeal. Public art, placed in strategic spots along downtown streets, is one of the projects designed to add visual interest and support the community's creative spirit. Turn back the clock with a self-guided tour along Oyster Bay's Heritage Trail, one of the features that earned the town a designation as a Preserve America Community. Take a break from viewing Oyster Bay homes for sale to stop in at Teddy's Bully Bar, where history is also on the menu of this atmospheric gastropub that bridges past and present.

  • Roslyn
Originally known as Hempstead Harbor, Roslyn acquired its current name in 1844 to distinguish the village from all the other "Hempsteads" popping up around Long Island. Roslyn's signature landmark is the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Tower, commissioned by the children of the tower's namesake, who was an active advocate of the local community. Downtown Roslyn is home to My Father's Place, a legendary entertainment venue that hosted one-time up-and-coming musicians and comedians such as Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Eddie Murphy, and Andy Kaufman. After closing in 1987, the club was reincarnated in its current location at the Roslyn Hotel, not far from Roslyn homes for sale.

  • Westbury
The history of Westbury parallels that of the Quakers, who came to the area in the mid-17th century searching for religious freedom. Two hundred years later, expansion of the Long Island Rail Road through Westbury drew Irish and Italian immigrants to the village for opportunities to work the local farms. Downtown is notable as the starting point for Charles Lindbergh's historic trans-Atlantic flight in 1927, near places where Westbury homes for sale sit today. Post Avenue is the site of much activity, including the Westbury Community Center and M. Phipps Sports Center. Just off Post Avenue on Schenk Boulevard is Westbury Arts, a popular spot that promotes local culture with concerts, exhibits, paint-and-sip nights, and other entertaining events.

Uptown, downtown, all around the town, Nassau County is the place to be. Contact us at Laffey Real Estate for more information.
