Photography Day Destinations - Long Island, NY | Laffey Real Estate

August 19th is World Photography Day when we pay tribute to the art form of photography. What better way to celebrate than by snapping a few photos yourself? Luckily, Long Island is a very photogenic place. Whether you're looking for photos to hang on a wall or fill your Instagram page, these are some of our real estate agents' favorite places to take pictures on Long Island.

  • Hempstead Lake State Park - Eagle Avenue, West Hempstead, NY 11552
Photography opportunities abound in Hempstead Lake State Park, which spans 737 acres and includes three freshwater lakes. Hempstead Lake is the largest lake in Nassau County and an especially great place to snap some fall foliage photos as the leaves start to turn. Hempstead Lake is also open to canoes and kayaks, which provides a unique vantage point from which you can get some great landscapes. Plus, the park is just a short drive from some beautiful Hempstead homes for sale

  • Sands Point Preserve - 127 Middle Neck Road, Sands Point, NY 11050
With its lovely gardens and highly Instagrammable castles, Sands Point Preserve has become a favorite destination for Long Island photographers. The historic Hempstead House is a particularly often-photographed site within the preserve, but you also have numerous wooded areas and gardens in which to practice your photo skills, including a lovely rose garden. You'll find plenty of Port Washington homes for sale near the preserve, which also offers spectacular views of Long Island Sound.

  • Ocean Beach Park - 300 W. Broadway, Long Beach, NY 11561
One of Nassau County's best beaches, Ocean Beach Park faces southward from the city of Long Beach. Ocean Beach Park offers 4 miles of continuous sandy beaches, where you'll find ample opportunities to capture some great photos of sand, surf, and shore birds. But the beaches aren't the only photography subjects here; be sure to check out the local fishing piers and jetties, as well as Ocean Beach Park's 2-mile boardwalk.

  • Old Westbury Gardens - 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568
It's hard to imagine a more photogenic place than Old Westbury Gardens, a sprawling estate with a historic manor house and acres of rambling, beautifully manicured gardens. It's an especially popular destination for wedding and engagement photos, and the gardens can also be used as an outdoor wedding venue. That being said, Old Westbury Gardens is a great place for all kinds of photography, and it's just minutes from these Westbury homes for sale.

  • Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach - 63 Larrabee Ave., Oyster Bay, NY 11771
If your goal is to capture photos by the water, be sure to add Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach to your List. Take beautiful photos of Oyster Bay Harbor at this Nassau County gem near these Oyster Bay homes for sale. This park is also home to a variety of athletic fields, boat ramps, and picnic tables perfect for lunch.

  • Montauk Point - 2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954
Montauk Point is a photographer's dream come true at the easternmost tip of Long Island in Suffolk County. In addition to miles of rugged coastline, including steep bluffs and rocky beaches, the point is home to the historic Montauk Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in New York state. The lighthouse and the surrounding coastline are part of Montauk Point State Park, which also includes hiking and equestrian trails.
