Fill Your House With Music in 2021 - Laffey Real Estate

Music may not make the world go round, but it sure does round out your world. Whether you're working from home or resting after a long day at the office, setting your home up for sound is a great way to enjoy the day. Day in and day out, our real estate agents will tell you that an increasing number of homes in the area incorporate systems that make it easy to enjoy music while taking a bath, working in the kitchen, or relaxing on the patio.

  • Create a Foundation You Can Build Upon
Smart home systems create a solid foundation that you can use to create a connection between your favorite music in every room in the house. Google and Amazon are the leaders in smart home systems that allow you to connect every speaker in your home through one centralized system. You can install these devices in every room and set your system to operate these speakers individually or as part of a whole-home group.

At the heart of your home, make sure that you install solid and reliable WiFi. The stronger the signal, the better. If you plan to connect other smart home devices to your system, make sure your system has enough bandwidth to support all of your devices; otherwise, you can end up with a less than desirable sound quality and reliability.

  • Choose Your Speakers Carefully
Google Home and Amazon offer several different kinds of speakers, and both allow you to connect third-party speakers manufactured by Sonos, Bose, Sony, and others. You don't need the biggest and best speaker for every room. Rather, choose your speakers based on the size and acoustics of the specific room. Smaller speakers work great in kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms, while you will want to choose larger speakers with more bass for living rooms, decks, outdoor living areas, etc.

  • Get Ready to Stream
This is where your choice of a smart home system comes into play. Google Home allows you to stream music from Spotify, YouTube Music, and other services. Amazon allows you to tap into their vast music library as well as Spotify, Deezer, and more. Both are good choices, and it really boils down to your personal preference.

  • Open the Door to Old School Sound
If you're a true musical purist, you have no doubt (or want to have!) a turntable connected to your sound system. When it comes to turntables, splurge on a high-quality device. Turntables with carbon fiber tonearms, steel or acrylic platters, a heavy plinth, and a medium to high-quality cartridge will deliver superior sound quality. Additionally, make sure it has a USB outlet or WiFi. This will make it easy to connect your turntable to your sound system.

  • Up the Ante and Enhance the Experience
Don't forget the lighting. While you are upgrading your home to enjoy concert-quality sound in every room, invest in smart lights to go with your speakers. Philips Hue is a popular choice because the lights can be synced to your movies and music. It's a great way to enhance the ambiance and set the mood whether you're listening to rock and roll, jazz, country, classical, or another genre.
