Oyster Bay Polar Bear Plunge
Feel like chillin' out, but don't want to have to go far to have a great time? To find fun with friends and family, all you have to do is head on to TOBAY Beach on Ocean Parkway on the morning of March 16th. That's when polar bears from throughout New York will descend on Oyster Bay to splish and splash their way through a day of unforgettable memories.

Polar Bear Plunge - 15 Years of Support for Special Olympics

Special Olympics New York is one of the largest athletic organizations in the country. There are currently just under 69,000 athletes and partners training with the organization. Each year they support area athletes who are eager to show off their skills at competitions around the world. Since 1968, the organization has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of athletes to compete in everything from track-and-field events to basketball games and Alpine skiing. With 22 Olympic-styled sports to choose from, there are plenty of opportunities for athletes to shine.

Of course, the organization also offers swimming competitions which is why the Oyster Bay Polar Bear Plunge is such a perfect match for this special organization. Over the past 15 years, everyone from celebrities to sports heroes has dipped there toes into icy waters around the country to show their support for the courageous athletes who set the bar higher and higher each year. Last year, several hundred swimmers turned out in Oyster Bay, and organizers expect an even larger turnout this year.

The Main Event

This year's Oyster Bay Polar Plunge for Special Olympics will take place on March 16th at TOBAY Beach, Ocean Parkway. Registration runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

When the pens go down, the plungers go right in. The plunge will follow right after at 11:30 a.m. Participants can run, jump, dive, or crawl right into the icy waters of TOBAY beach when the whistle blows.

Raising Funds for a Fantastic Cause

This isn't just for fun. This is a FUNdraiser, and participants are encouraged to raise as much money as they can support the cause. Plungers who raise $150 or more will receive an official Plunge sweatshirt. Those who earn more than $150 can go on to earn many prizes that they can sport throughout the community. Those who raise $400 or more will earn the right to sponsor one athlete throughout the season. It's a great way to show everyone that you're as cool as they come and you are not afraid to chill out with strangers even when the folks beside you are a bit frosty.

Practice Before the Big Day

Folks in Oyster Bay love to support great causes. Your future neighbors will be testing the waters on March 10th at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay as they dive headlong into the ultimate ice bucket challenge to support the 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge organized by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County. Festivities begin at 1 p.m., and the Plunge takes place at 2 p.m. Organizers promise to have plenty of hot cocoa, coffee, hot snacks, and friendly conversation to warm everyone up.

Our real estate agents know that the best thing about Oyster Bay isn't the many beautiful Oyster Bay homes for sale; it's the strong sense of community that flows freely through the area's neighborhoods. Contact us to find a Long Island home of your own.
